What is the Coastal Player Development League?
The Coastal PDL is a new youth soccer league that will replace the former SCYSA Coastal League. It will provide a games program for boys and girls playing in the U8-U12 age groups. The structure will support players in the "golden years of learning" by bringing together both age-appropriate game development and the thrill of  competition against similar opposition

Why was the Coastal PDL created?
The Coastal PDL has been introduced to support young players, families, coaches, and referees here in the Lowcountry in competitive soccer matches that will put players at the forefront of the structure. The Coastal PDL will be a platform for players to showcase their skills consistently on Saturday mornings.

Who can participate?
The league is open to ALL Coastal area SCYSA- affiliated clubs who wish to participate. Teams will be placed in appropriate matches under the direction of their club’s Director of Coaching (DOC) who will act in the team's best interest.

What are the benefits?
The Coastal PDL will benefit;
  • Parents in terms of set travel schedules and regular playing times on Saturday mornings.
  • Referees by giving them single-venue assignments and an opportunity to be mentored during matches.
  • Coaches by having the opportunity to play all of their players for longer periods of time in games while having regular games against similar competition, “a truly holistic environment”
  • Players (see below)

How will this impact my child?
  • Regular game times on Saturday mornings at set locations.
  • Each player is guaranteed a minimum of 25 minutes of uninterrupted playing time each week.
  • Consistent games against similar level opposition as set out by their Director of Coaching.
  • Players will benefit from a game structure that will help develop players with the aim of playing a full 90-minute game, with referees who are being supported regularly to improve.

When are games?
Saturday mornings between 9 am - 1 pm at set venues.

How many games per season?
Each season will open with a pre-season Jamboree and teams will play on six fixed game days with one weather make-up date, all dates set in advance.

What age groups can participate?
The league will operate U8-U9-U10-U11-U12 age groups for both boys and girls.

Who is running the league?
Charleston Soccer Club administers the league and drives the structure with the support of the member clubs. A comprehensive set of rules agreed upon by club DOCs supports the governance of the league.

What has changed from the former Coastal League?
New games format that provides teams a consolidated 90 minutes of playtime and gives every player the most opportunity to improve. Set games and venues scheduled well in advance, aimed to minimize travel impacts. Consideration will be given to teams that are traveling over an hour. Players will have 90 minutes of play in a single game rather than 100 minutes between two games spread across the day/weekend.

What is the game format?
For the 7 v 7 matches, format will consist of three periods as follows:
  • Period one: 20 minutes
  • Period two: 20 minutes
  • Period three: 30 minutes

For the 9 v 9 matches, format will consist of three periods as follows:
  • Period one: 25 minutes
  • Period two: 25 minutes
  • Period three: 40 minutes

What if games are canceled?
A game will only be canceled due to weather. There will only be one rain-out date used for makeup games.  The scheduled rain-out date will be disclosed at the start of the season along with the play dates.
